Kitchen & Bath

My clients were a young couple renovating the kitchen and master bathroom of their Denver home. They enjoy incorporating retro and mid century design elements but still wanted the home to feel very modern. Their favorite inspiration images included a variety of earth tones and geometric patterns. My focus was creating functional spaces that feel extremely personalized and timeless.

For this project, we were asked to select non-interior/non-architectural images as inspiration for the concept of each space. A painting by French artist Ines Longevial (left) inspired a kitchen design rich with earth tones and texture. A Henry Matisse cut-out print (right) inspired a bathroom design with bold contrast and smooth curves. Both spaces incorporate retro design elements through a modern, minimal lens.

Asymmetrical open shelving visually balances the peninsula layout and creates a functional corner space

Verner Panton pendants in brick red add a retro element that complements the forest green velvet stools below

Black appliances/hardware and matte gray slab cabinetry were selected to modernize the space

L-shaped half wall provides separation from the toilet and a built-in toiletry shelf

Deco tile on the shower walls creates a bold pattern that, when applied in a calming sage green, doesn’t overwhelm the space

Black hardware and fixtures were selected as a sharp contrast to the other muted tones throughout the bathroom
